A survey on the demographics of employees in 2014 carried out by STATEC has revealed that female graduates earn more than their male counterparts in Luxmebourg.
According to the study, not only are young women more qualified that men but they also earn more.
In Luxembourg, 34% of employees have a higher level education and 39% finished secondary school. Among women, the percentage of university graduates is higher than men with 38% as opposed to 31%. This is especially the case among employees aged between 25 and 34 in which 51% of women are graduates as opposed to 37% of men. This explains why the average salary of women in this age group is higher than that of their male counterparts.
Moreover, the wage gap between men and women in Luxembourg is one of the smallest in the European Union, at 6%. In addition, with €59,700, the full-time equivalent average brute salary is the highest in the EU.
