
The event took place in the premises of the University of Luxembourg in Kirchberg in the presence of family members of Pierre Werner and the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance of the University.
The jury for the pre-selection of candidates was composed of Prof. Stefan Braum (then Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance), Prof. Jörg Gerkrath (Head of the Doctoral School of Law) and Prof. Tibor Neugebauer (Programme Director for Finance and the Doctoral School in Economics and Finance). Based on the pre-selection of the jury, the Management Committee of Fondation Pierre Werner, chaired by Mr. Luc Frieden, decided to split the total grant of €25,000 for the four following outstanding young students and researchers:
- Dimitrios Kafteranis (Greece), doctoral candidate in law, who is preparing a thesis on the topic of “The protection of whistleblowers under EU law: towards a new legal framework”
- Ditmir Sufaj (Albania), Master in Economics and Finance student, who is researching the impact of macroeconomic variables on stock market performance across EU member states.
The Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance, Prof. Anke Müßig thanked the Fondation Pierre Werner for their initiative: “We are proud that you chose us as your partner for this project, which, at its heart, is about the promotion of European integration.”
