The Automobile Club Luxembourg (ACL) has issued holiday driving advice to help the Luxembourg public before they head off abroad.
The ACL cautioned that it expected holiday routes to be particularly busy in France and Spain this summer due to the Euro 2016 football championships and the latter's status as the number one EU tourist destination.
According to the ACL, preparation is essential for a successful holiday, prompting the Club to offer a "holiday test" check of the technical conidition of a vehicle to detect various weaknesses that may cause problems during the journey. In the event of an individual wanting to rent a car for the holidays, ACL also highlighted its Clubcar rental service.
To avoid hitting a traffic jam, motorists are advised to consult traffic schedules, for example through the ACL traffic info service, to learn about traffic conditions on major European motorway routes. The ACL further recommended that drivers stop to take a break every two hours during their journey so that they can get some fresh air and stretch their legs.
In the event of a car breaking down, motorists must put on reflective vests, exit the vehicle on the hard shoulder side and set up the warning triangle (in Spain, 2 triangles are required). ACL members can contact the Club 24/7 at +352 26 000 to have a rescue vehicle sent out to the breakdown location.
