Jan De Nul has today launched the most powerful dredge in the world, the Willem van Rubroeck, at the Uljanik shipyard in Croatia.

The dredging vessel has a length of 151.3 meters, a width of 36 meters and a speed up to 12 knots. With a total installed diesel power of 40,975 kW, the dredge is the most powerful worldwide.

The ship has two propellers with a capacity of 6,000 kW and three pumps with 25,500 kW, two installed in the pump room and one in the disintegrator elk, as well as a disintegrating power of 8,500 kW.

The vessel has the capacity to to dredge compact sand, clay and hard rocks up to depths of 45 metres, and can even accommodate up to 67 people.

The ship will be operational from 2018.
