On Friday 27 November 2015, the Isaac Newton cable laying ship was officially handed over to Jan De Nul Group by the shipyard Uljanik Brodogradiliste in Pula, Croatia.

The same day, the ship set sail for Norway for shipping cables for its first project. The cables will then be transported and installed in the Middle East.

Isaac Newton is the latest addition to the impressive fleet of Jan De Nul Group, and it is the largest cable ship of its class, capable of transporting and installing over 10,000 tons of cables in one trip. The larger of the two carousels on board has a capacity of 7,400 tons.

"These unique features allow us to run cables more effectively in longer lengths with fewer junctions at sea, and more economically, since the required number of trips will be reduced," said Wouter Vermeersch, Offshore Cables Manager. "The first vessel from the site already shows, for a cable with a length of 89km weighing 7300 tonnes will be loaded, transported and installed in a single section. A second cable of a weight of about 1,200 tons will be shipped on the same journey, using deck carousel."
