With the end-of-year festivities getting underway, Chronicle.lu is compiling a series of articles exploring some of the Christmas markets taking place across the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

While major events such as the markets in Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette run for several weeks, many smaller yet equally charming local markets open for just one day or a single weekend.

The Christmas market in Mondorf-les-Bains opened on the last weekend of November, with stalls operating from Friday to Sunday, and will run until Sunday 14 December 2025, spanning three weekends of festivities.

Held on the town centre grounds, this year's market brings together 42 stalls with seasonal products, festive dishes and Christmas decorations from local artisans and food vendors, complemented by an entertainment programme.

The market's opening weekend featured a special surprise animation during the official opening, followed by live music on Friday 28 November, additional concerts throughout Saturday 29 November and themed family activities on Sunday 30 November, including entertainment for children and an evening performance by the local singer duo, Simply2.

During Chronicle.lu's visit on Sunday evening, the market was not overly crowded, parking spaces remained accessible in the surrounding area and the longest queue, at the pizza stall, took no more than fifteen minutes for food to be served.

Other seasonal and international dishes were available, including chicken wings, Portuguese "bifanas", Christmas cookies, "bouneschlupp" (traditional Luxembourgish green bean soup), burgers, "cassoulet" (French stew), sweet and savoury fried goods, grilled products, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine in assorted flavours, Irish coffee and a selection of festive drinks.

The market also featured stalls offering fashion accessories and clothing, decorative Christmas items, Vietnamese crafts, jewellery, dog biscuits, candles, jam and honey-based products.

The programme during the first weekend of December featured live music on Friday, a mix of activities on Saturday and a visit from "Kleeschen" (Saint Nicholas), as well as further musical performances and a children's workshop on Sunday. The festivities will continue next weekend with concerts by Sonia Ruspicioni and Fränz on Friday and Saturday, followed by a parade of "twelve life-size plush animals" and a performance by the Harmonie Municipale of Mondorf-les-Bains on Sunday.

In addition, from 12 to 14 December, the town's twinned city of Cabourg will be present with an oyster-tasting stand and a variety of traditional products from Normandy, France.
