On Wednesday, Luxembourg's Gilles Muller (ranked #23 on the ATP tour and seeded #19 in this tournament) lost his second-round match at the US Open tennis championships at Flushing Meadow in New York.
After defeating Bernard Tomic in four sets in the first round, he was up against 35 year-old Paolo Lorenzi (#40) from Italy, who had defeated 28 year-old Joao Sousa of Portugal in 4 sets in the 1st round.
Muller started the strongest and won the first set on a tie-break. However, Lorenzi stepped up a gear and won the next three sets for a 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 win. He will now meet 28 year-old compatriot Thomas Fabbiano in the third round.
