On Wednesday 23 July 2025, POST Luxembourg experienced a major nationwide network outage, disrupting internet, mobile and landline services from approximately 16:15.

According to a government press release issued on Wednesday evening, Luxembourg's Prime Minister Luc Frieden convened the Crisis Unit (Cellule de crise) in response to the disruption. The unit, chaired by Luxembourg's Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, and attended by Minister for Home Affairs, Léon Gloden, met in the early evening to analyse the situation and discuss possible additional measures.

By 20:00, the situation had stabilised: emergency numbers 112 and 113 were once again fully accessible, along with most internet and telephone services.

POST confirmed, in a statement issued at 20:15, that service restoration was underway, with emergency calls being prioritised. It said its technical teams were fully mobilised and continuing efforts to restore all services as quickly as possible.

POST is still investigating the cause of the disruption and is continuing to monitor the situation.

Government ministers praised the swift response of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) and the Grand Ducal Police, who worked to ensure continuous access to emergency services.

The Grand Ducal Police had issued a statement around 18:30 warning that the 113 emergency number was difficult to reach via the POST network. They provided alternative contact numbers. About three hours later, the police confirmed that the situation had stabilised and access to 113 had been fully restored across all networks.

The authorities also noted a delay in the delivery of LU-Alert messages to POST customers on Wednesday, caused by the network disruption.

The Crisis Unit stressed that Prime Minister Frieden was being kept informed and was actively involved in all decision-making.

The Crisis Unit included representatives from: Ministry of Home Affairs; Ministry of the Economy; High Commission for National Protection (HCPN); Grand Ducal Police; CGDIS; Department of Media, Connectivity and Digital Policy (SMC); Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR); telecom providers (POST, Tango, Orange); Information and Press Service (SIP); Luxembourg Internet Exchange (LU-CIX).
