On Tuesday 11 October, Deloitte Luxembourg’s indirect tax team launched a free online application which determines a company’s VAT obligations in Luxembourg.
Deloitte Luxembourg’s indirect tax team presented the firm’s latest VAT development which goes under the name of eVAT Comfort. This free and user-friendly application openly accessible at Deloitte Luxembourg’s website determines whether or not a company is subject to VAT registration in Luxembourg.
“We developed eVAT Comfort as we see that companies in Luxembourg are struggling to understand their VAT obligations. VAT rules are complex and may be difficult to understand for non-tax professionals,” explained Christian Deglas, who leads the firm’s indirect tax team.
More than a fine
The eVAT Comfort application comes in the form of an online questionnaire. Users are asked to answer a series of questions related to the company form and type of activity, by clicking on possible answers. Based on the replies, the application will determine whether or not the company is subject to VAT registration in Luxembourg.
“A company that does not comply with the applicable VAT rules will be subject to financial penalties. But there are other consequences as well, as a non-compliant company may put its clients and suppliers at risk and thereby jeopardize its commercial relationships,” added Christian Deglas.
The eVAT Comfort application was presented to an audience of 140 industry professionals at Deloitte Luxembourg’s popular VAT autumn event. The conference also highlighted the latest VAT changes and indirect tax trends, such as the new VAT rules applicable to director’s fees.
