On Thursday 20 August 2026, Luxembourg's national employment agency ADEM reported that the country's unemployment rate remained stable at 6.3% in July 2026, while the number of available resident jobseekers increased by 8.4% year-on-year.
At the end of July 2026, ADEM recorded 19,943 available resident jobseekers, an increase of 1,547 compared with 18,396 in July 2025.
The year-on-year increase was particularly pronounced among highly qualified jobseekers, whose number rose by 16.3%. This group accounted for one-third of all available resident jobseekers. By age, the increase reached 10% among young people, compared with 6.8% among those aged 45 to 64.
In terms of occupations sought, ADEM recorded the strongest increases in IT, industrial cleaning, banking and law. Demand for business support occupations also increased, particularly in accounting and management, secretarial and assistance roles, as well as organisation and research.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by Luxembourg's national statistics institute STATEC, stood at 6.3%.
During July, 2,799 resident jobseekers newly registered with ADEM, down 1.9% from 2,854 in July 2025.
At the end of the month, 10,148 resident jobseekers were receiving full unemployment benefits, representing a year-on-year decrease of 3.8%. A further 1,587 resident jobseekers with professional redeployment status were receiving either a waiting allowance or professional waiting allowance.
The number of residents participating in employment measures reached 4,441, up 5.7% compared with July 2025.
Among non-residents, 870 people registered with ADEM during July, an increase of 16% year-on-year. The total number of available non-resident jobseekers reached 4,128, up 24.5% compared with the previous year. Of these, 2,482 had external professional redeployment status, an increase of 9.5%, while 1,646 had registered voluntarily without being eligible for financial assistance, representing a 56.9% year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, employers declared 3,754 job vacancies to ADEM in July 2026, representing an increase of 12.8% compared with July 2025. The number of available vacancies at the end of the month stood at 7,183, up 6.5% year-on-year.
The strongest annual increases in vacancies were recorded in paramedical care, information and telecommunications systems, social and socio-educational work, construction, as well as organisation and research.
ADEM noted that the employment market figures for August 2026 are scheduled to be published on Monday 21 September 2026.
