Earlier this month, the organisers of Esch2022 presented to the general assembly the evolution of the strategic realisation of the large-scale project “European Capital of Culture Esch2022”.
The 2020 activity report confirmed that Esch2022 is clearly taking shape. Last year, the Esch2022 team continued to strategically prepare the most diverse areas of this project. Employees and project partners are implementing Esch2022 not only locally, but also nationally and internationally. The programme provides for around 140 artistic and cultural projects in the nineteen municipalities, as well as new tourist offers that implemented jointly by the tourist team and administrative and municipal partners. In addition, at the end of 2020, Esch2022 was the first European Capital of Culture to create a Sustainable Development Charter, which is expected to serve as the guideline of achievements, but also a support to guide the project's partners.
In 2020, as elsewhere, preparations were strongly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and changed the way the organisers collaborated and presented. The key word is digitalisation, which will also offer new opportunities to reach people more easily at national level and arouse their curiosity for Esch2022. For 2022, the project team will in principle stick to the schedule, but also remain flexible in the implementation and scheduling of individual projects and events, in case of restrictions next year.
As of 31 December 2020, the project's annual budget (revenues minus expenses) amounted to €12,649,837.
