STEP Benelux has announced details of a Cocktail Meeting being held on Tuesday 24 January 2017 at 18:15, in collaboration with AMCHAM, at the offices of Maitland (Luxembourg) S.A. at 58 rue Charles Martel, L-2134 Luxembourg.

The presentation on “Understanding how Reporting under CRS/FATCA and US Tax Aspects impact Foreigners using the USA for Wealth Management and Business in their structure" will be given by Andrew Knight, Partner at M Partners (member of the Maitland network), and James O'Neal of AMMC Law, Luxembourg.

Andrew Knight has 27 years’ professional experience including international tax and wealth structuring. He has been extensively involved with FATCA and the CRS since their introduction, both on the technical aspects and practical implications. He holds a BComm LLB (Stellenbosch University), and an LLM (Cambridge). Andrew is admitted to practise as a Solicitor and a South African Attorney and is on List IV of the Luxembourg Bar. He is a member of STEP.

James O'Neal is a Principal at AMMC Law SA an independent full service Luxembourg law firm with offices in Malta as well. James is an international tax lawyer with over 17 years of experience in Luxembourg, the USA, and Malta with clients from Fortune 500 Mega corporations to mid-size businesses, as well as institutional investors from private equity houses to hedge funds. James is also the Treasurer and on the Executive Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg ASBL where he works with AmCham Leadership to lobby the Luxembourg government for tax policy competitiveness.

- The role of the US: 
•    FATCA – is it really a one-way street?
•    CRS – is the US the answer?

- The role of the OECD – does it really create the rules?

CRS – some recent developments

PART 2: US TAX ASPECTS: Overview of US Taxation of Foreigners and Foreigners using US Vehicles (Corporations, LLC, Limited Partnerships, Trusts) for wealth management and/or international business purposes.

PART 3: Hypothetical Scenarios for Foreigners (non-US tax resident) using US Vehicles/Entities for international business and wealth management purposes.

TIMING: Meeting from 12:00, lunch will begin at 12;30 and the meeting will end at 14:00
