The Luxembourg Athletics Federation (Fédération Luxembourgeoise d'Athlétisme - FLA) has announced the list of athletes selected for the upcoming 2026 European Challenger Championships, which will take place in Monaco on Tuesday 30 May 2026.
The federation noted that the competition was previously known as the Championships of the Small States of Europe.
According to FLA, around eight or nine athletes withdrew from the Luxembourg delegation, mainly due to school examinations or injuries. The federation therefore selected additional athletes from the waiting list among those who had achieved the qualifying standards, in order to reach the maximum team size of 26 participants.
“As the programme was released very late, we have not yet been able to decide on the participation of athletes qualified in a second event. This decision will be taken at a later stage together with the staff, in consultation with the athletes and their coaches,” added the federation.
The Luxembourg team selected for the championships includes Kimberly Chin Fatt (5000m), Julia Ciccone (400m), Luc Dostert (200m), Sven Forster (shot put), David Friederich (400m hurdles), Camille Gaeng (100m), Charel Gaspar (high jump), Daniela Godinho Ferreira (400m), Bob Goebel (long jump), Fanny Goy (1500m), Vera Hoffmann (1500m), Zoé Hoffmann (200m), Alan Jehanno (100m), Till Joly (high jump), Carole Kill (800m), Stéphanie Krumlovsky (shot put), Glenn Lassine (400m), Jamie Ley (1500m), Nils Liefgen (long jump), Sandra Lieners (5000m), Noémie Pleimling (javelin), Fabrice Reiland (800m), Elise Romero (800m), Sophia Schaack (200m), David Wallig (100m/200m) and Gil Weicherding (5000m).
At the 2024 Championships of the Small States of Europe in Gibraltar, Luxembourg won nine medals. Gil Weicherding claimed the country’s only gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase. At this year’s championships, he will compete in the 5000m event.
