On Wednesday 28 August 2024, Luxembourg’s Minister of Sport, Georges Mischo, participated in the International Disability Inclusion Conference, organised in Paris by UNESCO and the International Paralympic Committee in the framework of the 2024 Paralympic Games.
This conference brought together policymakers, other government authorities, development banks and various stakeholders to inspire the development of inclusive policies and increase investments to advance the implementation of programmes and practices that promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in and through sport.
During his speech, Minister Mischo stressed that the Luxembourg government supports a proactive sports policy aimed at promoting physical activity and sports for the entire population, from early childhood to old age, at all levels of practice. The objective is to maximise the positive impacts of physical activity and sports on living together, integration, social cohesion and the health and well-being of all citizens.
The Minister also recalled that sport for inclusion promotes the values, ideals and vision of acceptance, human rights and non-discrimination. Inclusion in and through sports also means ensuring that every person has full respect, dignity, value and belonging in all the roles they may play – athlete, coach, official, administrator or spectator.
Finally, Minister Mischo reaffirmed Luxembourg's commitment to continue developing inclusive initiatives and strengthening the organisational capacities of the sports movement to ensure fair and accessible participation for all, including people with disabilities.
