Luxembourg's winter sales kicked off on Monday 2 January and will run until Saturday 28 January 2023 inclusive.
As part of the annual winter sales, shops will be exceptionally open to the public on Sundays 8, 15 and 22 January 2023.
The sales period began in Luxembourg one day ahead of that of neighbouring Belgium, where the winter sales started on Tuesday 3 January and will last until Tuesday 31 January 2023. In nearby Lorraine in France, the winter sales also kicked off on Monday 2 January 2023, although the sales period will begin later (on Wednesday 11 January 2023) in most of the rest of the country. There are no set sales periods in Germany.
This new year also sees a reduction in VAT rates in Luxembourg, from 17% to 16%, which applies to adult clothing and footwear. The usual VAT rate of 3% still applies for children's items.
The sales period in Luxembourg runs twice a year, in summer and in winter, allowing traders to clear their stocks and sell products at reduced prices and consumers to avail special discounts.
Luxembourg's summer sales will run from Saturday 24 June to Saturday 23 July 2023 inclusive.
