To mitigate the effects of inflation, predominantly increased energy prices and consumer prices on households and businesses, the Luxembourg government has introduced a reduction in VAT rates appicable from 1 January 2023; this reduction will apply for a 12-month temporary period, up until 31 December 2023.
The standard VAT rate of 17% is now reduced to 16%; the intermediate rate (for custodial services, etc., and some alcohol) of 14% is reduced to 13% and the reduced rate (for electricity & gas) of 8% is reduced to 7%; the super-reduced rate of 3% (food & beverage) remains unchanged.
