Representatives of the UCVL retail association and the City of Luxembourg presented earlier today the details of this year’s Luxembourg City Braderie, which will take place on Monday 31 August 2020 from 09:00 to 19:00 in the Luxembourg-Gare and Ville-Haute districts.

The 91st edition of the “Stater Braderie”, a popular shopping event in the capital, will see a total of 217 stands exhibit their local products in the streets of the Gare and city centre districts. The event traditionally attracts around 100,000 - 120,000 visitors.

In the context of the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, this year’s Braderie will take place in a “reduced format” and in accordance with certain sanitary measures: wearing a mask is obligatory for shop staff and shoppers alike, and shops taking part in the event must respect the barrier gestures within their establishments.

City of Luxembourg Alderman Serge Wilmes explained that this would be “a very special Braderie for a very special year”. This edition will thus feature half the number of stands traditionally present in order to fully respect the sanitary measures in place, with only businesses established in the capital having a stand.

Eating establishments will not have outdoor stands, although visitors can dine and have a drink at the 150 cafes and restaurants in the area - a number of which have received permission from the City of Luxembourg to expand their terraces. In addition, a "food village" offering take away will be set up in Place Guillaume II.

Special discounts of up to 70% are already available for visitors to the capital this weekend, with shops open exceptionally on Sunday as part of the “City Shopping” initiative.

Throughout this event, the Ville de Luxembourg will also be distributing brochures related to businesses in the capital participating in its voucher support scheme; the public can then participate in a competition to win €50 vouchers (16,411 up for grabs) to spend in these various establishments.

In terms of accessibility, AVL city buses will serve the districts according to the current summer timetable; bus staff will be carrying out checks to ensure mask wearing. Motorists are also encouraged to use the various Park + Rides: line 1/125 will run between P+R Bouillon (2,400 parking spots) and the Central Station and city centre every 10 minutes from 05:22; lines 22 and 28 will run between Parking Stade and the Central Station and city centre every 10 minutes; line 21 will run from P + R Howald, Lux-Sud (free parking for 24 hours) to the Central Station and city centre every 15 minutes, with return journeys departing every 10 minutes from Hamilius (Quai 2) between 13:25 and 01:24; line 18 will run between P + R Kockelscheuer (free parking for 24 hours) and the Central Station and city centre every 10 minutes.
