Two pop-up stores yesterday opened their doors in Luxembourg-ville: Bricks4Kidz and BOTARI.

On Monday 2 December 2019, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, and Serge Wilmes, first alderman and head of commerce in the City, inaugurated the two pop-up stores located on Rue Philippe II. Following the launch of a call for applications in mid-September and the evaluation of some 40 applications, the City selected Bricks4Kidz and BOTARI for this first pop-up stores experience.

Bricks4Kidz, located at 38 Rue Philippe II, has been described as a centre of creativity that gives parents the opportunity to enrol their children in an educational and entertaining workshop while they shop in the city centre. In addition, the store offers the organisation of birthday parties, parent / child workshops, thematic workshops for children (for example, Carnival, Halloween or Christmas), internships during the school holidays and team building activities for adults.

For its part, BOTARI, located at 40 Rue Philippe II, combines a shop and a gallery. The store sells exclusive or artisanal items (sustainable fashion items, accessories for young designers, porcelain or artisanal perfumes, etc). It also allows visitors to meet creators, artists and artisans at various events organised in the commercial premises.

The two pop-up stores will remain in place until the end of April 2020.

As part of the pop-up stores project, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and contributing to the creation of a diversified commercial offer in the city centre, the City of Luxembourg will launch the next call for applications in March 2020. Creators, artists, traders or start-ups interested in renting one of the two sales and exhibition spaces will be able to submit their application via the form available online at popup.vdl.lu.

Proposals must be in the field of clothing, accessories and jewellery, house equipment, services and leisure, care and beauty, art, fashion and photography or packaged dried foods. The premises have an area of approximately 45 m2. The minimum rental period is one month and the maximum duration is six months; an extension up to three months is possible according to the availability of the space. Monthly rent (excluding bills) is €650, €1,250 or €2,250 depending on the specific situation of the entrepreneur or merchant. Rent will vary for large national or international subsidiaries that already have several establishments, but wish to set up a pop-up store for the launch of a new product.
