A crayfish bisque has been removed from the shelves of Lidl supermarkets after the product was found to be contaminated with bacteria, Luxembourg's food safety authorities reported Thursday.
Luxembourg was informed via the Rapid Alert System for Food of the European Commission that the 'Bisque d'écrevisse' product from the Lidl Délicieux line has been contaminated by bacteria of the Clostridium genus and distributed to Luxembourg through LIDL stores. Food-borne infections caused by Clostridia may result in gastrointestinal problems accompanied by fever and/or diarrhoea. These symptoms may be aggravated in young children, immune-deficient individuals or the elderly.
The product in question has now been withdrawn from sale in Lidl stores but as some inventory has already been sold, the Luxembourg food safety authorities are advising the public to avoid consuming the product, a 570 ml 'Bisque d'écrevisse au safran' (Saffron Crayfish Bisque) with bar code 2059 7665. Only the particular product here cited has been compromised and other items are not affected.
