Match supermarket has announced its 2015 Foire aux Vins, which will be held at all Match outlets in Luxembourg from 16 September to 13 October 2015.

For this event they have selected circa 400 of the best wines from a shortlist of over 1,200, and are proud that over a third of these wines are already prize winners, ranging from a silver medal winning Saint-Emilion Grand Cru for less than €10 per bottle to a gold medal winning Médoc for less than €6 per bottle. Although predominantly French, wines from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and of course Luxembourg also feature.

Many of the wines are heavily discounted for the event, and Ludger Castin, Head of Marketing for Match & Smatch BeLux was at pains to stress to The Luxembourg Chronicle at the Wednesday launch that this is driven by Match’s wish to attract customers who may not otherwise think of Match as their wine merchant of choice, and is certainly not a reflection of the quality of the wines themselves.

Match have issued a catalogue “Le guide du Vin 2015” which, in addition to listing the available wines and their prices, adds value to the experience by including a variety of symbols, described in a key on the back pages, with which certain wines in the catalogue are identified, among other things, as medal winners or “coups de coeur”, which in “Match Speak” means wines which are of particularly good quality for their price. Additionally the guide shows how long particular wines can be kept, and the ideal temperatures at which to serve them.

Finally on Friday 18 September the Match outlets will host a special “Crazy Friday Wine” promotion between 18:00 and 21:00 in which, as well as the discounts already applied, an additional 10% will be deducted at the checkout for purchases by case of 6 of any of the wines, and a prize draw for a set of Luigi Bormioli crystal wine glasses (2 per outlet) worth €150 will be held.
