Luxembourg's Food Safety Service has announced that they have detected a mycotoxin, a fumonisin contamination, in the "Farinha de Milho" cornflour product by Matias in Portugal, as a result of a routine check.

The product has been distributed in Luxembourg via Cactus stores, and may have also been sold in other stores.

Fumonisins are toxins formed by mushrooms/fungi of the genus Fusarium in maize under certain climatic conditions. Fumonisins are classified as "possibly carcinogenic" to humans.
