Girls from Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL), St George’s International School and Walferdange Rugby Club recently participated in demonstration rugby matches at the Stade de Luxembourg, held before and during the Luxembourg senior men’s XV home fixtures in the Rugby Europe Trophy.

These matches took place on Saturday 29 March and Saturday 5 April 2025, when Luxembourg faced Sweden and Poland, respectively. As reported by the RCL, these matches highlighted the growing popularity of girls' rugby and the important role sports play in empowering young women.

According to the RCL, the demonstration games gave local female players a chance to show off their skills and enthusiasm for the sport, all while cheering on the Luxembourg national team. The timing of the matches, ahead of the senior men's international fixtures, emphasised the increasing support and interest in rugby for girls in Luxembourg. It also showcased the hard work of local clubs and schools such as the RCL Girlz, St George’s and Walferdange in developing young talent.

Rugby offers girls a “unique opportunity” to build strength, teamwork and leadership skills. These demonstration games proved that rugby is a “fantastic sport for girls, encouraging them to challenge themselves and thrive in a supportive environment.”

We’re excited to see so many girls involved in rugby and performing so well. These matches are a great way to celebrate the growth of girls’ rugby in Luxembourg and to inspire more young women to join the sport,” said Jeff Boulot, President of the Luxembourg Rugby Federation.
