The National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) has announced the second edition of its BnL Summer School, which will take place from 1 to 6 August 2022 (inclusive), aimed at teaching through workshops and practical work of the different tasks of future librarians, archivists and documentalists.

The summer school will be limited to a maximum of fifteen participants from secondary schools, universities or other institutes of higher education. Students of librarianship, archives or documentation or related disciplines will be prioritised.

The courses will be in Luxembourgish, German and / or French, and therefore fluency in these three languages ​​is essential.

Programme

Day 1: BnL - an institution, its building and its collections;

Introduction to the BnL, its building and the organization of open access documents.

Day 2: Logistics, warehousing and conservation;

Logistics of closed stores, preservation of historical documents, restoration and binding.

Day 3: Acquisition of collections and management of historical documents;
Principles of acquisition and discovery of the management of historical documents.

Day 4: Luxembourg online;
Luxembourg heritage mass digitization program and web archive

Day 5: Online scientific resources, open access and long-term digital preservation;
Luxembourg Consortium, Open Access and digital legal deposit.

Day 6: Promotion of the library and its collections;
Cultural mediation in libraries - why and how?

At the end of the summer school, participants will receive a certificate.

The training courses will be given at the National Library of Luxembourg (37D, avenue John F. Kennedy; L-1855 Luxembourg-Kirchberg).

The participation fee is €60 per person which will include all course materials, supplies, lunch and a common activity but not transport, accommodation or other personal expenses.
