Last week, 6 to 12 December 2021, 484 pupils in primary schools in Luxembourg tested positive for COVID-19, according to data from Luxembourg's Ministry of Health.

The 484 positive cases (representing nearly 1% of the total pupil population of 50,890) were found in public and private schools under the national curriculum and an additional 58 students in private schools following an international curriculum tested positive.

The positive cases include PCR tests and antigen tests carried out at school or at home.

The 484 cases are representated across the fifteen primary school directorates in Luxembourg. The lowest rate was 0.56% under the Echternach directorate and the highest rate was 2.08% under the Wiltz directorate, in the north of Luxembourg.

These percentages are calculated with respect to the number of students in each directorate in the 2019/2020 school year.

The Ministry of Health data showed that an additional 212 pupils from secondary schools tested positive during the week in question.

Since the beginning of the school year on 15 September 2021, a total of 5,662 people, including teachers and support staff, have tested positive in the Luxembourg education sector so far. This includes 3,882 people in primary schools, 1,767 in secondary schools and thirteen in skill centres.
