On Monday 14 July 2025, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) and UP_FOUNDATION, a foundation committed to educational development, hosted the inaugural edition of MEGAREfest, a neighbourhood event celebrating the achievements of children from the Gare district.

As noted by the organisers, the event transformed Place de Strasbourg and the surrounding streets into a “welcoming space for interaction and discovery”, running from 16:00 to 20:00.

Various local organisations involved in the community presented a wide range of activities for children, including creative and sports workshops, small performances, reading sessions, games, information stands and other attractions. On this occasion, the College of Aldermen also inaugurated four large panels created by pupils from school cycles 2 to 4 at the Gare primary school as part of the "Kreative Schoulhaff" artistic project. These artworks will now decorate the school’s playground fence. The community event served as a festive and symbolic conclusion to the school year, highlighting the children’s creativity and involvement throughout the year, VdL emphasised.

This event forms part of the broader MEGARE project, an initiative launched in 2024 by the City of Luxembourg and UP_FOUNDATION. According to VdL, the project seeks to promote the positive development of children in the Gare neighbourhood and to strengthen social cohesion by bringing together families, educators and local actors in a caring environment focused on child well-being.
