Luxembourg's Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth has published an overview of the COVID-19 situation in Luxembourg schools for the week of 18 to 24 January 2021.
The figures for students and teachers who tested positive for COVID-19 relate to all public and private primary and secondary schools and skills centres located in Luxembourg.
During the week of 18 to 24 January, a total of 168 new cases were identified, including:
- 145 positive cases corresponding to scenario 1 in public and private primary and secondary schools and in skill centres (scenario 1: a pupil or teacher infected outside the school without the virus having spread at school). NB: the total number of scenario 1 cases in the table pictured amounts to 146, because one case concerns a student of both a primary school and a skill centre class;
- Six positive cases corresponding to scenario 2 in public and private primary and secondary schools (scenario 2: maximum of two positive cases in a class with an uncertain source of infection or probably outside the class);
- Twelve positive cases corresponding to scenario 3 in two primary schools and one secondary school (scenario 3: three to five positive cases in a class).
In addition, the situation in a nursery class at Lënster Lycée International School evolved from scenario 1 during the week of 11 to 17 January (week 2) to scenario 4 during the period considered (week 3) (scenario 4: chain of infection within a school; several classes concerned or a class with more than five cases). Following the detection of a positive COVID-19 case in week 2, tests carried out on the class in question in week 3 revealed five further positive cases. As a precaution, a mobile testing team went to the site to test students and teachers from all nursery and primary classes. Of the 280 students and teachers tested, two additional positive cases were identified; they will appear in the table for week 4.
