640 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Luxembourg Schools Last Week

Luxembourg's Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth has published an overview of the COVID-19 situation in Luxembourg schools for the week of 14 to 20 December 2020.

The figures for students and teachers who test positive for COVID-19 relate to all public and private primary and secondary schools and skills centres located in Luxembourg.

During the week of 14 to 20 December, a total of 640 new cases were identified, including:

- 519 positive cases corresponding to scenario 1 in public and private primary and secondary schools and in skill centres (scenario 1: a pupil or teacher infected outside the school without the virus having spread at school); 

- 91 cases corresponding to scenario 2 in public and private primary and secondary schools (scenario 2: maximum of two positive cases in a class with an uncertain source of infection or probably outside the class);

- 30 positive cases of scenario 3 in public and private primary and secondary schools (scenario 3: three to five positive cases in a class).

During the period considered, no new scenario 4 appeared (scenario 4: chain of infection within a school: several classes concerned or a class with more than five cases). The two positive cases which appear in the table above belong to a scenario 4 already identified the previous week (7 to 13 December 2020).
