St George’s International School in partnership with the Friends of St George’s hosted it’s second ‘Freshers and Followers’ event on Saturday 17 September.
The ‘Freshers and Followers’ is an annual event organised by St George’s parents association (Friends of St George’s) to help families integrate into Luxembourg’s community. Similar to the previous year, there was an overwhelming positive response with 28 organisations participating and 250 new and returning families attending. The event took place in the school’s brand new auditorium and campus.
The aim of this social event is to enable club and association representatives from the Luxembourg community (and the school) to promote their businesses. The organisations that attended included: the local press – Chronicle.lu, Delano and Just Arrived; parent and youth support groups - Passage, KJT Online Help; book sellers - Chapter 1, Lucy Goosey, Little English Bookworm and Bookends; charity organisation - Make-A-Wish Foundation; health and wellbeing enterprises: Priority Health Training, Healthy Living (Reflexology), Yoga Balance, The Yoga Tree, Happy Fitness; Sports clubs- Tops Squash, Estess Tennis, Aller Badminton, Gymboree. Also represented were theatre groups – Pirates and New World; Rainbows/Brownies/Guides and Mixed Martial Arts. The St George’s Clubs Secretary was there to answer any questions about extra-curricular clubs organised by the school and of course the Friends of St George’s were on hand to help, inform and sign up parents for future events.
While parents socialised and learnt more about the local community, children were entertained by a variety of activities, one of the favourites being the bouncy castle provided by Moo & Roos. Books, cards and party-ware were also on sale as well as refreshments sold by the food truck, ‘StrEATChef’.
