Luxembourg's Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity has announced that the government's cabinet (Government Council) adopted the 18th interim review of gender statistics in decision-making bodies on Friday 11 October 2024.
According to the ministry, the equal participation of women and men in political and economic decision-making positions remains a priority for the government and is a crucial factor in defining an egalitarian society. However, female representation in positions of power remains limited in many areas.
Since the formation of the new government, and the creation of new ministries, monitoring of gender statistics in decision making bodies is now carried out by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity.
The Minister of Gender Equality and Diversity, Yuriko Backes, announced that the figures continue to move in the right direction. She affirmed her determination to maintain these efforts undertaken by the government in order to inspire other stakeholders in our society. Minister Backes stated "the respective knowledge and skills of women and men complement each other, and thus contribute to more sustainable management of resources".
