Michel Barnier, chief negotiator responsible for the European Commission working group for preparing and conducting negotiations with the United Kingdom under Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union, paid a working visit to Luxembourg on Tuesday 4 April 2017.
This visit was held in the context of the triggering of Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union by the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, on 29 March 2017.
Michel Barnier was welcomed by Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, for a meeting at the Hotel de Bourgogne in Luxembourg city centre. He also met with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, at the bâtiment Mansfeld.
The discussions provided an opportunity to discuss in depth the negotiations for the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union and future relations with the United Kingdom.
During his visit to Luxembourg, Michel Barnier also met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mars Di Bartolomeo, and exchanged views with members of the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Defense, Cooperation and Immigration, as well as with members of the Committee on Finance and the Budget.
