The first meeting of the Strategic Monitoring Committee for the Rifkin study was held yesterday under the presidency of the Deputy Prime Minister Étienne Schneider, in the presence of the Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, and members of the government François Bausch, Fernand Etgen, Pierre Gramegna, Marc Hansen and Nicolas Schmit.
Employers' organisations, trade unions, professional chambers and civil society groups were also represented.
At the first meeting of the Monitoring Committee, the National Council for Sustainable Construction, Energiezukunft Lëtzebuerg, TIR High-Level Group on Industry, Circular Economy, Mobility, Finance, Sustainable Intensification of Agriculture and Labour, Employment and Social Issues discussed the various platforms that have already commenced or will be convened in the near future.
The next two meetings of the Strategic Monitoring Committee were scheduled for July and October 2017 to develop and discuss the first reports outlining the results of the work and related progress. On the basis of these reports, the Governing Council will be able to decide on the stages of the country's transition towards a more sustainable economic model and on the future orientations of the country.
The purpose of the Strategic Monitoring Committee, which is regarded as an oversight body, is to centralise the work of the various thematic platforms in which the measures and proposals detailed in the strategic study are analysed and discussed.
The following institutions are members of the committee: ACEL, Amiperas, Caritas Luxembourg, CGFP, Chamber of Agriculture, Chamber of Commerce, Chambre des Métiers, Chambre des Salariés, Chamber of Civil Servants and Public Employees, IMS Luxembourg, LCGB, Ecological Movement, OGBL, UEL and UNEL.
