Jean Asselborn, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister for Immigration and Asylum, visited Prague on Wednesday 2 March 2016 at the invitation of the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Jean Asselborn met with his Czech counterpart Lubomir Zaorálek and with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka. The discussions focused on how the EU should manage the migration crisis as well as on cooperation between Benelux and the Visegrád countries.
Jean Asselborn and Lubomir Zaorálek agreed that the solution to the immigration crisis must be European and that in this context it is necessary to strengthen the external borders of the Union, including giving Frontex more skills and more resources.
"National solutions are not the way forward. Plan B would be an admission of failure, "said Jean Asselborn, adding that" it is also important to continue to support Greece, which currently bears the greatest burden ".
He also said that "cooperation with Turkey should be strengthened further, also in the framework of the Atlantic Alliance."
The ministers also reaffirmed their good bilateral relations and pledged that they will be strengthened in the economic field.
