Jean Asselborn, Luxembourg's Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, is in Brussels today to participate in the 'Foreign Affairs' Council (FAC) and the 'General Affairs' Council (CAG) of the European Union.
The FAC will be tackling regional issues in the Middle East, particularly with regards to the situation in Syria. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Nasser Judeh, will be present at the meeting, where the Board will be addressing political cooperation between the EU and Jordan. The ministers will then delve into the situation in Ukraine and the role that the EU could play in the country's reform process.
On the sidelines of the FAC, a meeting will be held between the EU and the former Yugoslavic Republic of Macedonia, as well as an EU-Ukraine meeting, which will take stock of the Union's relations with both countries.
The GAC will present the first opportunity for the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the EU, handed over in January from Luxembourg, to present its work agenda for the coming semester. The ministers will discuss preparations for the European Council on 18 and 19 February 2016, including the role of the UK in the EU, as well as migration.
