On Wednesday 2 December 2015, a visa waiver agreement was signed between the European Union and Colombia, enabling EU citizens to stay in the South American country and vice versa for a period of 90 days without a visa.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the EU by Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Jean Asselborn, and European Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs, Dimitris Avramopoulos, and by Foreign Minister, Maria Angela Holguin, on behalf of Colombia. The signing took place in Brussels in the presence of the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini.
This measure will come into provisional force on Thursday 3 December 2015, pending completion of the procedure for its formal conclusion.
However, Irish and UK nationals are exempt from this agreement, as the visa regime remains subject to the respective national laws of both States.
