This year’s Rock the South Newcomer Band Contest will be held on Saturday, 10 December 2016 at 19:30 at Home St Hubert in Pétange and entries are now open.

Since the first edition of the competition in 2009, Rock the South has been promoting local bands by giving them the opportunity to perform on stage. This year’s competition will be attended by last years’s winnersThe Kooters, and the winners of the Screaming Fields Booker’s Prize from this year, Another from Above.

The principle is simple: Rock the South is a contest open to amateur rock music groups and mainly for newcomers on the Luxembourg scene. Participation is subject to various conditions relating to residence and age of the participants. The majority of the musicians participating group must reside in Luxembourg, the minimum age of the musicians is 15 and the average age of the group can not be greater than 25. Songs of a racist, homophobic or sexist nature are prohibited and the duration of the stage performance is limited to 30 minutes.

A jury comprising professionals and music enthusiasts will judge the performance and pick the winner, who will win a package worth €1,000. This includes preparation by Rocklab at the Rockhal and registration for sessions at the Rockhalstudio. The Service National de la Jeunesse (SNJ/ National Youth Service) will also give the winners a chance opportunity for the group to perform at the 'On Stéitsch 2017' festival.

The competition is organised in association with the National Youth Service, the Rocklab at the Rockhal and 7FM Luxembourg. Admission is free for all. The deadline for registration is November 30, 2016 and only five bands/ artists will be chosen to take part in the play-off!
