The team of Joanna Sinoradzka, Carli Williams, Lorene Gaudin and Kelsey Hopper, aka "Young Internationals" won the 9th annual Discover Luxembourg event on Saturday 10 September 2016, with a total of 1050 points, just one of two teams to break the magic 1,000-point milestone.
A total of 60 teams of four set out on the course at lunchtime, from in front of the LCTO office on Place Guillaume II in Luxembourg city centre, having beforehand chosen either the Short Route (6km) or the Long Rounte (8km). This year's theme colour was orange, courtesy of ING Luxembourg, this year's Event Partner along with the Ville de Luxembourg and the LCTO. The organisers and the volunteers from the ISL wore green, to distinguish themselves from the participants.
Along the routes, the teams discovered aspects of Luxembourg's culture, history, technology and gastronomy, with eight Event Stations along the way in which they could participate in challenges to win points. They also had ten questions to answer, as well as 10 photographs to take and post on social media along with the #discoverlux2016 hashtag.
The route brought them to the LEO (Enovos group) offices on Bld Roosevelt where they did an Energy Quiz, then to the Place d'Armes where the charity Stemm vun der Strooss had a quiz about their operations to held the vulnerable in society, including the homeless. Then onto the Grand Rue where ING Luxembourg had a fun game on land pedalos, before going back to the Place Guillaume II where LeneLife operated a challenge in which teams had to correctly identify 5 ingredients in a juice.
After taking photos of the Sheep Statue on Grand Rue and the Bird Statue on the Cité Judiciaire, at that stage the Long and Short routes split, taking different routes down to the Pétrusse where they discovered the €2m skate park and the Melusina statue in the Grund, before walking past the Casemates and down into Pfaffenthal whereupon they took the new lift up to the Pescatore.
The remaining challenges featured a cinema/film quiz at the Place du Theatre, the discovery of the 50-seat Theatre de Centaure off the Grand Rue and the Cold War exhibition in the MNHA museum. At that stage many teams were thirsty so they stopped at The Tube whereupon they had another challenge, this time to identify 5 ingredients in a cocktail. The remaining two challenges involved the Timequest Escape Room on Rue du St Esprit where teams had to solve clues to open two combination locks, and the Bofferding stand at Place de la Constitution where teams had to arrange 18 beer crates correctly so that an image formed (like a giant 18-piece jigsaw).
The Finish Station at the Altrimenti in the Konvikt Centre on Ave Marie Therese was where the teams finished and where the prize-giving was held on schedule before 19:30.
