On Thursday 3 December 2015, the SQL Server Luxembourg User Group will be holding a double bill of talks, providing the fundamentals of Microsoft Azure SQL Database administration and explaining policy-based management for servers evaluation.

Microsoft Azure SQL Database

Microsoft Azure SQL Database first arrived on the scene before people were properly discussing cloud computing and has since comprised a number of versions. These were somewhat limited in functionality, with no opportunity of backing up your database, a limited database size and a lack of heap tables. Last year though, Microsoft reached another milestone by introducing near-complete SQL Server engine compatibility and more premium performance.

This event will therefore take participants on a tour around the new Microsoft Azure SQL Database world, providing an overview of the administration fundamentals of this new release. What's new in the latest Update V12 – including Azure SQL Database Auditing, RLS, Dynamic Data Masking, Backup and Restore.

Run Your DBA Morning Checklist with Policy-Based Management

A good Database Administrator (DBA) performs a morning checklist every day in order to verify that all databases and SQL servers are still in good condition, but this often becomes a time-consuming practice. This session will therefore demonstrate how to use policy-based management to evaluate servers and use this Solution to verify your own SQL Server environment.

These two talks will be provided by Pieter Vanhove from Microsoft and will take place at 17:45 at the company's Luxembourg offices in Clausen, next to Rives de Clausen. To register, visit https://sqlserverluxembourg.eventbrite.com or contact john.marsh@sql.lu. For more information on the speaker, visit http://pietervanhove.azurewebsites.net.

The evening will be rounded off with an informal opportunity for members to meet each other and to discuss the topics raised.
