On Monday 9 November 2015, the Serra roundabout in Kirchberg will become the first 'turbo-roundabout' in Luxembourg.
The new roundabout, equipped with traffic lights, will require motorists to choose their direction prior to entering the roundabout, with ring channels dedicated to the selected exit. Specific vertical and horizontal signals are in place to guide and assist road users across the roundabout.
Turbo-roundabout were first introduced in the late 1990s as a safer and more efficent alternative to multi-lane forms. The idea has become extremely popular in the Netherlands since the first one was established there in 2000, and the country now holds nearly 300 of this type.
