After embarking on a second World Record attempt on Friday 11 September 2015 from South Africa to Norway, car racer Rainer Zietlow, cameraman Marius Biela and CEO of Volkswagen Racing UK, Sam Roach, were announced as new World Record holders as they arrived at the end of their 19,000 km route in Nordkapp.
Mayor of Nordkapp Kristina Hansen was waiting at Norway's northernmost point for the arrival of the group, who embarked on the Touareg Cape to Cape 2.0 Challenge in a Volkswagen Touareg, completing the gruelling journey across 21 countries in just 9 days, 4 hours and 8 minutes.
"We are happy that we can now end our Cape to Cape project with this amazing time of 9 days, 4 hours," commented man behind the Challenge, Rainer Zietlow, upon crossing the finish line. "This feeling makes up for the disappointment of 2014's delays which meant we couldn't set a competitive time."
He continued: "I am also very proud that our route took us on the maximum possible driving distance, keeping our permitted flight over Syria to the absolute minimum possible distance. That's really important for me to know that we completed every possible km driving on the ground".
