On Friday 27 February 2026, the Luxembourg Administration of Bridges and Roads announced that following a serious road accident which occurred on the A6 motorway near Strassen at approximately 10.00 on Tuesday 24 February, the maximum speed will remain limited to 90 km/h over a distance of approximately 500m where a temporary barrier has been installed.

The accident, which saw a lorry collide with the central reservation barrier, resulted in the destruction of the central concrete barrier and the closure of the A6 in the direction of Luxembourg City.

According to the Administration of Bridges and Roads, a team of 21 of its staff were involved in the work to clean and clear the carriageway in order to restore normal traffic. The work included unloading the lorry’s goods, removing the heavy goods vehicle from the carriageway, clearing the road using a mechanical excavator and removing oil from the surface. In addition, a temporary central reservation barrier was installed in the median strip, allowing traffic to resume at around 02:00 on Wednesday 25 February, sixteen hours after the accident.

The administration noted that as this is a temporary barrier, the maximum speed will remain limited to 90 km/h over a distance of approximately 500m until the installation of a permanent barrier, which will take place in the coming weeks following delivery of the components.
