On Wednesday 15 October 2025, Luxembourg’s National Roads Administration began construction of a wildlife overpass on the A13 between the Sanem interchange and “Biff”, near the N31B access ramp and the CFL line between Luxembourg and Pétange.

The structure is the first ecological compensation measure linked to the Bascharage bypass and will connect the nationally protected “Dreckswis” area in the west with the Bobësch in the east. The overpass is a full structure with a composite steel deck; the span between abutments will be 32 metres and the minimum deck width 25 metres. Opaque parapets will screen views of the motorway and reduce traffic noise.

The A13 will remain open throughout the works, with narrowed lanes and a temporary 70 km/h speed limit over roughly 400 metres. To minimise disruption, full or partial closures needed for specific operations will take place only at weekends and overnight. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2027, at an estimated cost of approximately €5.1 million.

The Ministry of Mobility and Public Works is the contracting authority, with the National Roads Administration as project manager. TR-Engineering is the engineering office. Works are being carried out by Tralux Construction SARL and Metallic Bridges of Belgium.

Since 1 October 2025, the N31B access ramp to the A13 has been closed. Foundations are being built adjacent to the motorway under live traffic, the deck will be installed during several overnight closures, and the deck and surroundings will then be fitted with opaque parapets and new hedgerows before normal lanes and speed limits are restored on the A13.
