On Thursday morning, a car travelling on the A1 motorway crashed into the armco barriers alongside the motorway.
The accident happened shortly after 10:30 just before the Kirchberg exit. The car careered along the barriers and came to a halt after a few hundred metres. There were no other road users involved.
Other motorists at the scene of the accident provided first aid until the arrival of the rescue services. The rescue helicopter also landed on the motorway; as a result, the motorway had to be closed for a short period of time to traffic.
The driver, a 46-year-old man from Germany, died at the scene despite repeated resuscitation measures.
