
The reduction in the sale price of 7.5 cents per litre of petrol and diesel in Luxembourg has come to an end today, Wednesday 31 August 2022.
A representative of Luxembourg's Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning confirmed to Chronicle.lu that the government measure to reduce the consumer prices of petrol and diesel by 7.5 cents per litre (including taxes), effective since Wednesday 13 April 2022, has come to an end as of Wednesday 31 August 2022.
The measure was part of the Solidaritéitspak (solidarity package), agreed between the Luxembourg Government, the UEL business lobby and the LCGB and CGFP unions at the end of March 2022. Initially set to end on 31 July 2022, the measure was extended until 31 August 2022.
Prices displayed at petrol stations on Wednesday remain higher for all fuel types than those displayed on 13 April 2022. Super Unleaded 95 petrol, Super Unleaded 98 petrol and diesel were up €0.002 (0.12%), €0.156 (9.04%) and €0.257 (16.64%) per litre, respectively, compared to when the measure launched.
Moreover, breaking with tradition, at €1.900 per litre, diesel was more expensive than both Super Unleaded 95 petrol (€1.634 per litre) and Super Unleaded 98 petrol (€1.882 per litre) on 31 August 2022.
Prices for heating oil (mazout) and diesel for industrial and commercial use, as well as for agricultural and horticultural work, fish farming and forestry use, were also reduced by 7.5 cents per litre (including taxes) since 16 May 2022, but this price drop will remain in effect until 31 December 2022.
Diesel for industrial and commercial use was quoted at €1.538 per litre and for agricultural and horticultural work, fish farming and forestry use at €1.442 per litre as of 31 August 2022.
Prices include VAT.
