The Luxembourg Police reported 1,200 speeding offences during the fifth edition of the Speedmarathon on Wednesday.

During 24 hours, the police carried out some 200 checks across the Grand Duchy. Despite the prior announcement of the Speedmarathon, a European initiative aimed at combatting and raising awareness of the dangers of speeding, there were more than 1,200 speeding incidents on this occasion. Most of these were recorded by automatic speed radars (fixed and mobile).

In addition, the police issued some 250 speeding tickets during regular traffic checks, leading to the withdrawal of two driving licences on the spot. Other offences found during these checks included the lack of paper documents and the use of a mobile phone whilst driving.

The Speedmarathon is an operation that takes place at the European level under the tutorship of TISPOL (Traffic Information Police). A total of 26 countries participated.
