On Friday 14 November 2025, Luxembourg's national railway company, CFL, announced that from Thursday 1 January 2026 it will offer a new annual season ticket as well as a monthly season ticket at a reduced price.
According to the CFL, the simplified fare structure will see the introduction of a new annual season ticket, valid across the entire network which will cost €500. A new monthly season ticket, also valid across the entire network, will be €60. The CFL said: “This is a more attractive fare than that currently in place.”
The CFL noted that the “short-distance” season tickets (annual and monthly) will no longer be sold from Monday 1 December 2025, marking the first fare adjustment in almost twenty years. The aim is to simplify the first-class fare structure while encouraging rail use at advantageous rates for the entire journey.
CFL will continue to offer an annual first-class season ticket for older passengers (from sixty years of age), valid across the entire network, at a price of €200. The new season tickets will be sold exclusively through the CFL mobile application. Staff at the CFL sales and information centres (Luxembourg and Belval-Université stations) will remain available to assist customers who encounter difficulties when purchasing tickets via the application.
To meet the needs of leisure or tourist passengers, the CFL said that the ticketing system will be maintained. It will allow the purchase of first-class tickets for occasional travel, available as short-duration tickets (€3) or long-duration tickets (€6), as well as packs of ten short-duration tickets (€24) or five long-duration tickets (€24). Tickets are available from ticket machines or via the CFL mobile application.
The CFL has also announced that from Thursday 1 January 2026, a unified fare structure will be introduced for buses connecting Luxembourg with neighbouring regions of the Greater Region. RegioZone tickets will no longer be sold on board buses or at CFL sales and information centres, but exclusively via the ticket machines installed throughout all stations and stops, or in just a few clicks on the CFL mobile application.
The CFL remarked that this approach helps digitalise, simplify and streamline the process of purchasing tickets while speeding up and easing boarding for passengers who already hold a valid ticket.
