On Wednesday 9 August 2023, POST Luxembourg presented its approach to the electrification of its vehicle fleet at an event in Bascharage, held in the presence of Luxembourg's Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, and members of the POST Luxembourg management committee, among others.

This visit was an opportunity to present in detail the charging infrastructure as well as the various vehicles in POST's operational electric fleet, including eco-driving training.

The choice of site for this presentation was the regional distribution centre in Bascharage, the first POST Luxembourg site to have 100% of the charging infrastructure necessary for the fleet of operational cars to be fully electrified; the site counts 40 AC charging stations and one DC charging station. Of the 38 operational vehicles on-site, 33 are 100% electric vehicles.

By the end of 2023, POST Luxembourg expects to have a total of nearly 500 charging stations, spread over seventeen sites, allowing around 300 POST Courrier and POST Technologies electric vehicles to be supplied with electricity, fully covered by green certificates.

POST Luxembourg highlighted both the deployment of enough charging stations and the ability to adapt the electricity network using sub-distributors and transformers as determining factors in the electrification of a site.

Pierre Zimmer, Deputy Managing Director at POST Luxembourg, elaborated: "At POST, we believe that nothing stands in the way of the electrification of a car fleet, provided that we express a clear desire to implement it. A pioneer in this field, POST began this approach more than 20 years ago and by 2026, we are aiming for 90% electric vehicles across our entire fleet." He added that "most of the utility vehicles needed for mail delivery and technical interventions on the network or at POST Telecom customers will run on electricity. Added to this are company cars, which will also be electrified." The remaining fleet is made up of lorries, tractors and bulldozers, for which electric technology is not yet mature, noted POST Luxembourg.

Economy Minister Franz Fayot stated: "As the minister responsible for POST Luxembourg, I am delighted that the group is leading by example and giviing such a boost to electromobility in Luxembourg. POST thus contributes to the government's objectives for a more sustainable future for the economy and society, while benefiting from the aid put in place by the government for the installation of charging stations in companies."

POST Luxembourg also presented its eco-driving training programme; regardless of the type of vehicle or route, eco-driving consists of moving around in a vehicle intelligently. This training is available to all POST Luxembourg employees.
