Luxembourg's Ministry of Mobility and Public Works has reported that around sixty senior drivers aged between 60 and 70 gathered at the Driver Training Centre in Colmar-Berg for Senior Drivers Day on Wednesday 3 June 2026.
According to the ministry, the annual event was organised by GERO Kompetenzzenter fir den Alter and the Driver Training Centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception and with the support of the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works. It aims to raise awareness of road safety risks while encouraging age-appropriate driving.
Designed as a moment of learning and exchange, the initiative follows a positive and inclusive approach intended to strengthen seniors' confidence and help them maintain their independence behind the wheel for as long as possible.
Throughout the day, participants benefited from a comprehensive programme combining practical driving exercises and theoretical information sessions.
According to the organisers, Senior Drivers Day highlights the experience of senior drivers while supporting them in adapting to changes in mobility. As such, it serves as a tool for prevention and awareness, contributing to safer roads in a spirit of confidence and respect.
Luxembourg's Minister of Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, noted: "By valuing the experience of senior drivers while supporting them in adapting to changes in mobility, Senior Drivers Day makes a concrete contribution to making our roads safer. It is a genuine tool for prevention and responsibility, founded on trust and respect. Because road safety is everyone's responsibility, every shared experience strengthens collective vigilance and confidence behind the wheel."
