Between Wednesday 12 August and Monday 17 August 2015, a metal bridge forming part of a lift project linking Pfaffenthal with Parc Pescatore in the Ville Haute, will be put into place by crane from the Côte d'Eich.
The equipment to be installed will be delivered by convoy, and will consists of two metallic elements, one measuring 40 metres and the other 32 metres.
In an initial part of the process on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 August, the 40 metre structure will be fitted along its sides with metal cladding and will be placed the following day by crane onto a temporary stack positioned on one side on the slope between the Côte d'Eich and Pfaffenthal and the other side on the border of the Parc Pescatore and Côte d'Eich.
The 32 metre structure will be placed in Pescatore park, before it is equipped in the coming months with a metal cladding and attached to the other structure spanning the Côte d'Eich. Drawing on a maneuvre called 'lançage' ('jetting'), the two elements will then be pushed from the Parc Pescatore towards their final position, where they will be fixed to a concrete tower.
The gateway will be delivered to the site in two lorries, with one containing the 40 metre structure and the other the 32 metre element. The steel gateway will eventually measure a total of 72 metres, weighing 120 tonnes.
The Ville de Luxembourg reported that following the establishment of the bridge, the next stages of construction will involve the installation of the lift; construction of a hut in Parc Pescatore; local technical arrangements in Pfaffenthal; and external developments and landscaping in Pfaffenthal.
The commissioning of the lift is expected for Spring 2016.
