First Deputy Mayor responsible for circulation, Sam Tanson, and Alderman Patrick Goldschmidt, of the College of Aldermen of the City of Luxembourg, today presented the bi-directional cycle route on the Jean-Pierre Büchler bridge.
The site recently underwent redevelopment work, involving the creation of wider pavements and the removal of concrete bins, permitting circulation on the bridge between le Dernier Sol and Place de la Gare and allowing a direct and secure link between the Bonnevoie and Gare districts.
The measure represented an extension of the bicycle concept currently in place which seeks to optimise existing bicycle routes as well as the quality and safety of circulation for cyclists. Other projects have involved the reintegration of bicycles into urban spaces in Luxembourg throught the provision of the Vel'Oh! self-service bicycle system, and the building of cycling infrastructure including parking places and specific signage pointing to bicycle paths.
