Luxembourg-based non-profit organisation ADA has announced that it is organising an English-language webinar on "Microfinance plus: investing beyond traditional MFIs" on Thursday 15 October 2020 from 11:00 to 12:00.

Emerging technological innovations are deeply transforming the way microfinance institutions (MFIs) serve and monitor their clients. Furthermore, the current COVID-19 crisis has created both opportunities and risks for the inclusive finance sector which started to develop and adopt innovative practices to deal with it. There is now room for new models beyond traditional MFIs to meet the needs of the poorest using technologies that provide efficiency, cost and risk reduction, as well as the capacity to reach the most remote populations.

Impact investors are increasingly targeting these new models of MFIs. As they were better prepared to serve and follow up on clients in a world of social distancing, these new players seem to adapt their activities more easily to the new constraints.

Within this unprecedented situation, how could the "Microfinance Plus" vision be enhanced and amplified? On which topics and criteria will impact investors focus within the next months? How will these new investment criteria help to transform the microfinance sector in Africa and Asia? What are the risks and the advantages for investees to become more digitalised?

This lunchtime webinar will address these questions, with an online discussion of these new models, players and trends in the microfinance investment sector between Laura Foschi, Executive Director of ADA Luxembourg, and Raymond Schadeck, Chairman of LMDF Luxemburg, an impact investment fund, advised by ADA, working with players who bet on innovation

Participants will have an opportunity to listen and discuss with the speakers, who will answer questions on the topic. Professionals of financial institutions (banks, microfinance institutions) and regional organisations are thus invited to ask their questions either before the event via email: ada.midis@ada-microfinance.lu or live through Zoom via the discussion space that will be made available during the webinar.

This webinar is organised by ADA with the support of Luxembourg Aid & Development and in collaboration with Banque de Luxembourg.
